The Fountain of Youth
I walk down to the water’s edge and stare into the reflected infinity beneath me
So far the sky above me
So deep the water below
So close to touching something
So deep within my soul
I let nature envelope me and absorb me
I become a kid again
Adventurous and seeking
A dormant energy passes through me
Infusing me
I am alive
I am carefree
And I bound
I bound
It’s been ages since I’ve bounded
It’s been ages since I’ve explored
Years begin to melt away
The wrinkles on my face begin to fade
The dark circles beneath my eyes
And the crow’s feet at their corners
Disappear
And they’re replaced with a glow
The glow of a child
The innocence of youth
The waterfall towers above me
And I feel small
So small
I would say, “So insignificant”
If that were, indeed, how I felt
But significance never crosses my mind
For I am a child now
I am supposed to be small
My sense of the world
Is appropriate for how I feel
At the base of these great waters
I survey the nature around me
The trees, the rocks, the leaves
Wet from a nightfall rain
Glistening in this morning sun
I sense a greater power
I am in awe of what predates me
The outside world is vanished
The stress and chaos of my life succumbs
I am alive
I am carefree
And I bound
