The Screen Goes Black

Another (semi) recent one...

The Screen Goes Black

In between the flickers and starts of web pages
My screen goes black for brief moments
And I’m treated to my reflection
Caught unawares by it, truthfully
And I’m staggered at how disenchanted I appear
The loneliness I emit
An expressionless reflection
Offering no answers
Only more questions
Are things better on your side of the screen?
We each hope so
But we know better
I want nothing to do with this depressing portal
This accidental mirror
That has given me more awareness than I wanted
More heartache than I was ready to absorb
I cringe at what he has imparted
For that sad bastard makes me want to crank up the brightness
And look away
Rather than face the darkness
Of a screen - and a world - gone black
